Choir Progress

After 4 weeks of sectionals the Lincoln Choir rehearsed with both soprano and alto.  What an amazing sound! With good rehearsal habits our music will only get better!

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

Coming up on the week of October 7th our music students will be marking their self-assessments for the mid-term. These can be found on the "Trimester Learning Targets" page and are listed by grade.

For mid-term, we review each of the learning targets but do  not score them as they are a "work in progress"
The two habit targets are self-assessed by each student and will be available at their fall conference

Music and I Love To Read Month!

In February we celebrate "I Love to Read Month".  During many of our music classes, we used picture books to help us study our  music targets.  Grade 1 and 3 orchestrated a story.  Grade K added instruments and voice sounds to stories and made up dances. Grade two read about Jazz music and improvisation.  We even watched an Opera of "Where The Wild Things Are"   Here are some of the books we used.  Check them out at the IMC or Owatonna Public Library.!

Elementary Students can do hard things.

There are many who wonder why the Owatonna Elementary curriculum does not use a music textbook series.

The fact is, we haven't used a textbook since 1991.  We believe that most music textbooks underestimate what young musicians are able to do.

In first grade our students are already reading, notating, improvising and performing music in parts.  Our fifth graders are able to sing in 3 parts accapella (no piano or instruments).

All lessons and most of the materials used in our classes are created by each music teacher to move students towards accomplishing their learning targets.

Check out this trimester learning targets by clicking the tab on the menu bar.

Congratulations kids for  doing your best even if the work is difficult.

Choir is an important part of the Lincoln Music program.

Every year we have the Lincoln Choir which is open to all 4-5 graders and (Grade 6 Montessori).  The Lincoln Choir sings in  two school concerts every year at OHS

Every year from January to a March concert the All City Choir meets at OHS. Lincoln has on an average 23 students each year who rehearse and sing with the OHS choir in their March Concert.

Every four years the National OAKE choir meets here in the Midwest for the OAKE Conference.  This year 5 Lincoln students will be joining them and will sing with students from all over the U.S. for this very select choir.

In other words.
Choir is AWESOME!
