Congratulations Lincoln Choir members who participated in the All City Choir that performed with the Owatonna High School Choirs.   You were AMAZING and I am so very proud of all of you.  Just think-most of the kids who were singing in the Concert Choir were in the All City choir not so many years ago.

Your future is bright my young musicians!

Trimester 2 has finished!

I have seen so much growth in the musicianship with our Lincoln kids this trimester it is just amazing!

Report Cards will be coming out next week and the rubrics listed on the "Resources for Everyone" correspond with the music grades listed on you child's report card.

Thank-you for you encouragement and challeges you give to your children to give their best effort in music at Lincoln School.  More of their fine work will be video posted in the up-coming weeks.

Creating Music during the midwinter blahs!

With so much inside recess these past weeks, we've all had a case of the mid-winter blahs.  In the music room we spending time composing music as part of our Trimester learning targets.

Grade 1 and 3 are composing and performing rhythmic instrument parts for folk tales

Grade 2 is composing and performing 16 beat rhythmic songs in abac form

Grade 4 is working in composition groups creating an original composition which includes melody, accompaniment and improvisation on the mallet instruments.

Grade 5 had composed new winter/holiday lyrics to known folk songs (they were on the blog during December/January)

New videos of grade 1 and grade 5 performing musical games has been added to the "Pictures and Video" page.

I rhetorically asked "When is it ever going to be warm again?"
and a 3rd grader answered "May, Mrs. Bowcock!"
I was hoping for "tomorrow"!

New Beginnings

The last two weeks we have had some new beginnings with the New Year.
Lincoln Choir has begun rehearsing on Tuesday afternoons and All City Choir has begun rehearsing for the next 9 weeks on Thursday afternoons at OHS with students from the other schools in our district and St. Mary's school as well.   We have 15 new membeers of the Lincoln Choir and they have made a great choir even better!

Schedules for both of these groups can be found on respective pages in this blog.

Grade 3 created rhythmic and movement patterns to a Navajo game.  You will find pictures of some of these on the "Pictures and Video" page.  They were quite creative and turned out well.
