Hi Lincoln Families,
I hope you take time to 'sharpen your saws' with music making over this winter break. You will find a Holiday Sing-a-long slide presentation on the "Resources for Everyone" page. On the fifth grade page you will find some new holiday/winter words to songs we sing in the classroom in a slide show called "Student Holiday Songs 2012"
Lincoln Choir resumes on Tuesday, January 15th. New members are welcome from 4th and 5th grade at that time.

This week each class recorded a video of them singing a Christmas carol for the 25 Owatonna deployed soldiers. The had a great time, used their best singing and created music that hopefully will make a special memory for those who are far way from home. After Thanksgiving, these videos will be uploaded to a special page on this blog.
Just for your information, all videos are converted to YouTube, but are 'unlisted'. That means in order for anyone to see them, they must use the link on my blog. They are not searchable by the world at large.

This week we have been learning "De Colores" with our fourth graders for the concert. "De Colores" is a Central American folksong that in that region as well as the states that border Mexico that 'everybody knows'.
Some of the songs that 'everybody knows' that were shared in class were "Jingle Bells", "Happy Birthday", "Row,Row Your Boat" and the "ABC's" and "Twinkle Little Star"
This week, and the weeks to come, see if you can find the songs in your family that 'everybody knows' For example, in my family 'everybody knows' "You Are My Sunshine"

We have started our concert music and are learning it a little at a time. Kids, look on your grade pages and see what practice helps I have put up. It may be another choir or group of children performing your song, or even a skill that they are demonstrating that we will be using in our performances.
We have started taking scores for our trimester grading. I cannot believe you achievement in singing this trimester! First graders most of you have found your singing voices and are using them every day. Third graders, your scores are really reflecting your effort-most of the scores I took were either ME's or EE's. Wow.
Keep up the good work!

Wow, it was great to see how many kids and parents checked in to see the music blog. The month of November will spent in preparation for-
- The end of the trimester and assessment
- Learning and rehearsing music for the Winter Concert (Grades 3,4 and 5)
- Writing reflections on our work in music to be put in our data notebooks.
